Welcome to the Peabody Police Department
The Peabody Community Policing philosophy is to develop a partnership with the citizens they serve by working together to help prevent crime and solve neighborhood issues of concern. Our objectives are, to work with residents and businesses of the community to help resolve neighborhood problems and improve their quality of life, to teach residents of all ages about crime prevention and personal safety, and to put residents in touch with other agencies that will assist with their social concerns.
The City of Peabody is broken into areas and each area has someone from the command staff that is responsible for that area. This person is someone of the rank of Deputy Chief, Captain, or Lieutenant.
The Criminal Investigation Division performs all the follow-up investigative work for the Police Department. Each detective is specially educated to aid them in their ability to investigate the wide variety of crimes that can occur within a community
The parking clerk is available Monday to Friday from 9 – 4. You can pay parking tickets or ask questions during those times.
The services provided by Peabody Animal Control include; handling stray dogs, neighborhood nuisance problems, rabies concerns, and injured animals. The policy of the Animal Control Department is to respond to calls for injured animals regardless of the species.
In the 1850’s part-time constables and “Night Watch” men were hired by the town to preserve law & order. By 1872 the town records listed officers instead of constables. Full time police officers were Lewis Manning, James E. Blanchard, and Joseph W. Skinner, the first chief & “Keeper of the Lockup”.
These are some of the latest projects that we are working on to improve our services. The City of Peabody Police are dedicated to advancing our capabilities and technology. Our goal is to provide the best possible service to our citizens.
